i-sieve Technologies - Projects
i-sieve is an active participant in a number of projects, past and present.
We are always interested in pursuing new projects where sentiment analysis and/or metadata describing websites are a key part of the work.
Sync3
Traditionally, opinions on public issues are communicated to mass audiences only through the established news media. The advent of internet has provided to every citizen an inexpensive channel for broadcasting information to large audiences. However, this potential has yet to be fully exploited. SYNC3 aspires to provide the means by everyone will be able to take part in the formation of public opinion in a broader scale than the boundaries of narrow social surroundings permit.
SYNC3, Synergetic Content Creation & Communication, focuses in the commentaries of blog users on issues that are presented in the news media (blogosphere content). Such content is of significant importance for the collective formation of public opinion. However, blogs have yet to take place as a primary source of information. But unlike community news portals, the blogosphere is largely unstructured. This constitutes the main reason that the blogosphere cannot consistently reach larger audiences.
i-sieve's focussed Web crawling, spidering and sentiment analysis technolgy plays an important part in the identification and collation of user-generated 'news' by identifying and aggregating blogs expressing similar viewpoints.

QUATRO Plus
The Quality and Content Description project ran for 2 years between October 2007 and September 2009. the central themse was identifying online resources that meet certain criteria. There are many organisations that assess websites based on a set of criteria and award a seal of approval to those content providers that meet the criteria. That's not how people think of it, but that's the essence of what a trustmark does. QUATRO enables trustmarks and other sources of expert opinion to be machine processable.
As part of its contribution to the Quatro Plus project, i-sieve lead the development of a new web standard known as POWDER (the Protocol for Web Description Resources) under the W3C Recommendation process. Key POWDER tools are available elsewhere on this website including the validator and processor.
NCSR Demokritos, the research centre with which i-sieve is closely associated, has been leading the development of a suite of applications that use POWDER to create, manage, process and authenticate trustmarks.
